All the Bullshit About The Little Mermaid

Hi Cuties,

I don't know about you but I'm getting really tired hearing that Disney or Sony or some other studio that is currently churning out crap remakes of all our favorite films.

If it's not "Star Wars" or "Star "Trek" or "The Rings of Power" or "The Little Mermaid" that people are pissing and moaning about it's something else that someone whitewashed or colorized or did something else to their beloved fictional character that they don't like and they, like many others are turning to social media to put their 2 cents worth about how wrong it is.

Even my fiancé and I got into it and I'm sick and tired of all the crap.

It's not illegal (if you need help, go to Florida for that) and it's not your property.

Or to steal a phrase "It's not your character, bitch!"

The Little Mermaid is a Danish fairy tale written by Hans Christian Anderson and was published in 1837.

I'm assuming that since it's been more than 70 years since the authors death it is considered part of the public domain.

That means that no intellectual property rights exist and anyone can use it without restriction.

This is why companies like Disney use these stories to fill out their catalog.  Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland are stories that Disney or any other studio can make or remake without getting permission from the owner or paying a dime to the original author or their heirs.

J.R.R. Tolkein's The Lord of the Rings was not made because the heirs of Tolkein's work maintained their rights over the properties and exercised control over who could make movies based upon them

It took a long time before the owners of these properties would allow them to be made into Peter Jackson's version and the much maligned Amazon series "The Rings of Power".

One of my all time favorite properties is the original Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry.

I grew up on the original TV series and danced in the streets when they finally made it into a movie.

Most of the films that followed were great with some exception and luckily that continued into The Next Generation.

Unfortunately, and this often happens, other people who think they know what is best have been changing the story to the point were I won't watch anything made after a certain year.

Why?  Cause it's garbage, pure shit.

So what can a fan do in the face of such horse shit?

Simple.

You can do what I have done which is to stop wasting my time watching or paying to watch the stuff I don't like.  If it shows up on Netflix I might watch some until it turns my stomach but no further.

And if there is some remake were they changed the race, gender or national origin of a beloved character, same answer.

They don't get a fucking dime of my money.

Let's face it.  The little people like you and me can only control our money (as best we can) and our votes.

And if enough of use make the same choice to not spend our money then the bastards can just go out of business.

I took a moment to look this up and there are a lot of Movie Studios that have gone out of business for one reason or another.

Some I recognize like the Cannon Group and The Samuel Goldwyn Company are gone forever.

Excuse me but I need to watch something I love and not Ghostbusters 2016.
