CBS Miami is reporting that a criminal investigation has been opened into Governor DeSantis' airlifting of asylum seekers to Massachusetts.
Apparently (and I admit I didn't know this) but the migrants were sent from Texas on the orders of Governor Ron DeSantis using Floridian tax dollars to do this.
The Bexar Country Sheriff's office has opened this investigation because they believe that the migrants were "Lured, hoodwinked and exploited" for political purposes.
Sheriff Javier Salazar does not mention DeSantis but he states "I believe there is some criminal activity involved here."
DeSantis' office responded with a statement that the migrants were better off in Massachusetts.
Taryn Fenske, a DeSantis spokesperson said that "Florida gave them an opportunity to seek greener pastures blah, blah, blah bullshit" (yes, I rephrased it).
The Venezuelan migrants were told they were going to Boston and they had no idea of where they were going or where they were.
Apparently, Team DeSantis contacted the migrants at a city-run shelter in San Antonio and put them up in a motel where they were fed and showered with gifts. They were promised jobs and housing in Washington, New York, Philadelphia and Boston.
Massachusetts has the migrants being housed at Joint Base Cape Cod, where they have access to clothing, food and healthcare among other things.
Joint Base Cape Cod is a state-designated joint based created by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States War Department. Currently the base is being used for National Guard training.
Looks like Team DeSantis overshot their mark.
I certainly hope that Ron takes a little more care in vetting his future legal counsel for any upcoming trial.
