Hi Cuties,
Sorry but this one is going a bit deep. In fact we are going all the way down the rabbit hole.
How many of you have read "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells? It's an old one that was first published in 1895 and it tells a tale of a Victorian English scientist and gentleman inventor who is only referred to as "the Time Traveler".
This book shows a bit about how people thought in the way that the characters act and respond throughout the story. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it.
And before you ask, this is an affiliate link that might put a penny in my pocket should you click on it and buy. Or go to your neighborhood library and borrow a copy for free.
I originally read this book when I was around seven years old as well as many other wonderful stories.
I was such an avid reader that my parents and teacher decided that I was reading too much of what I wanted and not enough of what they thought I should so they restricted my privileges for a time.
It was through the wonder of reading that I learned much about the world around me but sadly that was not enough.
It was only through direct human instruction (i.e. teaching) and by observing the world around me and how the people acted towards each other.
So why did I go so far afield?
I was reading an article the other day by a transgender author who through watching and learning those around her she learned to keep her predilections to herself.
I also learned by watching how my family reacted to exposure to men who became women either through fiction or reality. I too learned to hide my dysphoria and bury it deep.
Why I say how a neighbor boy was treated when he was discovered when he was forced out of the house in a dress and makeup at the age of eight.
It only took a few times listening to my parents as they reached to a story about Renee Richards who not only transitioned in the 70s but competed on the professional tennis circuit as a woman.
Of course trans people were treated as jokes throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond so does it surprise anyone that I waited until 2017 to begin my journey to the person I am today?
In a way we, the people in each other's lives are the time travelers in our own stories. Moving through the generations either changing with the times or trying to change the world around us to meet our own warped view of reality.
Okay, now I'll stop and let you go.
Thanks for listening.
