Hi everyone,
First things first.
I'll be willing to bet that the vast majority of my readers (all 6 of them) think they know what discrimination is and what to do if it ever raises it's ugly head at them.
What I'm about to tell you may shock you but I doubt that there is a human being on the planet that is not currently engaging in wide spread discrimination.
In fact I will go out on a limb and state that my readers (yes, all 6) are also engaged in discriminatory practices on a daily basis.
But Meeka, how can that be? Why I have never once discriminated against anyone in my life. I swear.
Well boys, girls and others, here is were the rubber meets the road.
The fact is we all discriminate in fact that's all we do. Why just today when you were picking out your lunch you were discriminating against the rye and the pumpernickel in favor of the white bread which you paired with American cheese, black forest ham and mayo. Sounds yummy doesn't it?
Discrimination by its very nature is the act of picking and choosing either in favor of one item over the selection and use of another. Broccoli instead of peas. Pasta rather than humus. Etc.
And for the most part it is not illegal.
However, if the reason for the discrimination has to do with one or more of the protected statuses listed in Title 7 of the Federal Code of Regulations and only in certain circumstances.
So Meeka, you say. How the hell can I tell if I have been discriminated against and what can I do about it?
Simple my loyal reader. You reach out to a professional who knows the law and knows how to go about getting it enforced.
Yes, there are a lot of people who have hung out their shingle in this field so where can you start?
Joseph & Norinsberg is a large firm with offices in more than a couple of major cities but of course they are only a click away.
Take a moment and check out their page on LGBTQ Discrimination in the Workplace https://employeejustice.com/lgbtq-discrimination-in-the-workplace/.
I think that just reading this guide (which is extensive) will give you enough information to help you take that next step.
